This summary is for Leg #6. Our trip this summer is planned for 6 legs. 1) Head west from Boise and then south to meet friends around the San Francisco Bay area 2) Drive north along the western coast of California, Oregon and Washington up to Canada 3) Cross into Canada at Vancouver Island and then up to northern British Colombia 4) Head back south through Alberta and Saskatchewan 5) Discover North and South Dakota and finally 6) Head to Yellowstone National Park and back to Boise! Here is a map of the sixth leg just finished.
We have completed all six legs in 17 weeks and are now packed and flying home.
Here are some stats about the trip as of September 26th that we thought you might find interesting:
- We have now been to 8 US states so far with 1 more this leg. (ID, OR, CA, WA, MT, ND, SD, WY). And we have not been in any more Canadian Provinces this leg so there were only 3 total. (BC, AB, SK)
- We travelled 992 total miles for this leg at an average of 122 miles between stops. Most of the stops were pretty close together. The total milage for the trip so far is 6420. That compares to 9300 in 2024 and 9100 last year for a total of 25000 over the 3 summers.
- The longest travel day this leg was only 182 miles from Buffalo, WY to Cody, WY. And the shortest leg was only 48 miles from Jackson Hole, WY to Arco, ID.
- Again, we took mostly back roads and 2 lane highways through the farm fields but also did a few miles on Interstates as the best route that day.
- We normally drive 60 – 65 mph on the Interstates although, like in ID, the speed limit is 80 so we are still the slow-pokes.
- We have averaged about 13.5 mpg. Diesel costs are way up again this leg to an average of $5.95/gallon. Toward the end, diesel was selling for almost $7.00. Hope its better in 2027.
- We stayed in only 9 more RV places on this leg. That makes 52 for this year and a total of 184 since we left Miami in May 2024.
- 0 State park for a total of 3 this year
- 0 Luxury park for a total of 3 this year
- 0 Friends this leg for a total of 2 this year
- 4 Private parks for a total of 31 this year
- 2 KOA parks this leg for a total of 8 this year
- 0 City park this leg for a total of 1 this year
- 2 National Park this leg for a total of 3 this year
- 1 Truck Stop this leg for a total of 1 this year
- We walked and hiked about 58.6 miles this leg for a total of 386.1 miles for this summer. That is compared to 430 miles in 2024 and 420 miles last year. But both were a few weeks longer. But still about 1250 miles total over the three years of our travels.
