8/13/26– Trip Recap up to date

This summary is for Leg #4.  Our trip this summer is planned for 6 legs.  1) Head west from Boise and then south to meet friends around the San Francisco Bay area 2) Drive north along the western coast of California, Oregon and Washington up to Canada 3) Cross into Canada at Vancouver Island and then up to northern British Colombia 4) Head back south through Alberta and Saskatchewan 5) Discover North and South Dakota and finally 6) Head to Yellowstone National Park and back to Boise!    Here is a map of the fourth leg just finished.

We have completed the fourth leg in 13 weeks and are now heading south and back to the US for the fifth.

Here are some stats about the trip as of August 13th that we thought you might find interesting:

  1. We have now been to 4 US states so far although none this leg. (ID, OR, CA, WA).  And we have been in 2 more Canadian Provinces (AB, SK) this entire leg and 3 total.  (BC, AB, SK)
  2. We travelled 1206 total miles for this leg at an average of 241 miles between stops.  This is almost double our normal average.  The total milage for the trip so far is 4429.
  3. The longest travel day this leg was the first one at 395 miles from Dawson Creek, BC to Leduc, AB.  This was due to the fact we combined two travel days into just one!  And the shortest leg was 81 miles from Big River, AB to Langham, AB (Saskatoon).
  4. Again, we took mostly back roads and 2 lane highways through the farm fields of canola, wheat and other crops.
  5. We normally drive under 60 mph but have had a lot of 30-40 mph drives as well!
  6. We have averaged about 14 mpg.  Diesel costs are down again this leg to an average of $5.39/gallon.
  7. We have stayed in only 5 more places on this leg.  That makes 35 for this year and 167 since we left Miami in May 2024.
