Our trip this summer is planned for 6 legs. 1) Head west from Boise and then south to meet friends around the San Francisco Bay area 2) Drive north along the western coast of California, Oregon and Washington up to Canada 3) Cross into Canada at Vancouver Island and then up to northern British Colombia 4) Head back south through Alberta and Saskatchewan 5) Discover North and South Dakata and finally 6) Head to Yellowstone National Park and back to Boise!
We have completed the first leg in the first 4 1/2 weeks and are now heading north for the second leg up the coast mostly along PCH 101.
Here are some stats for the trip as of June 8th that we thought you might find interesting:
- We have only been to 3 US states so far this leg (ID, OR, CA). Oregon was a first time state for Gail.
- We have travelled about 1130 total miles for this leg at an average of only 113 miles between stops.
- The longest leg was the first one at 213 miles from Boise, ID to Burns, OR and the shortest leg was 37 miles from Alameda, CA to San Anselmo, CA.
- We have driven a mix of different kinds of roads from sections of I-5 and lots of miles on US 101 with many other back roads in all three states. Lots of curvy sections!!
- We normally drive under 60 mph but have had a lot of 30-40 mph drives as well!
- We have averaged about 13 mpg on a lot of back roads with hills and curves and a few miles on the Interstate. Diesel costs are up from last year to an average of $6.50/gallon. We paid $3.45 at the last fill up in 2025.
- We have stayed in 11 places so far this year. That makes 143 since we left Miami in May 2024.
- 1 State Parks
- 1 Luxury
- 2 Friends
- 5 Private Parks
- 2 KOA park
- We have walked and hiked about 95 miles already – Whew!
