We are sailors, have been sailing many locations around the world over the past 40 years including a 1 ½ year trip around the Caribbean, and have owned our own boat for 20 years. But now it is time to change. We sold the boat four years ago and bought the RV last year for some new adventures.
The sailing life and RV life are very similar. Each one you have to find a place to “anchor”, find fuel, find a place to pump out, watch the weather, and plan ahead. So we are very comfortable with an RV style of living. Now we are planning an RV trip and that is the justification for the blog.
We purchased a Class C RV, Thor Delano FB, model, and a Jeep Wrangler for the dinghy (another sailing reference) for the trip. It is small enough to get around and big enough for the 2 of us. It is based on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis with a turbo diesel engine. And should get over 15 mpg!
We still say “the boat” when speaking about the RV. After 20 years of taking stuff to “the boat”, checking on “the boat”, telling people about “the boat”, etc., it just comes out when we refer to the RV. So, the new name of the RV is “The Boat”! And we have named the Jeep ‘Moonshadow”, as in “I’m being followed by a moonshadow” from Cat Stevens.
We have taken them out several times since October, 2023 and have become comfortable with it on the highway and back roads. It is very easy driving even with Moonshadow following behind. Now we are adding stuff and getting packed to leave on an extended trip.
Hope you will follow along too. Stay tuned for the first leg to Hot Springs, AR and a rendezvous with new RV friends.
